Das mit der Zeit eingewachsene Figürchen war auch bei den Bewohnern der umliegenden Dörfer bekannt. Jedoch geriet mit den Jahren die eingewachsene Figur in dem Baum wieder in Vergessenheit. Einen Ungläubigen sei es der Legende nach nicht möglich gewesen, an der Buche vorbeizugehen. Eine unsichtbare Kraft hilt sie davon ab. Eines Tages jedoch stieß ein über dieses Hindernis erboster Ungläubiger sein Schwert in die Buche, worauf dreimal die Worte „Oh Weh“ ertönten. Wie angewurzelt blieb der Soldat stehen und konnte erst von vorüberziehenden Christen wieder befreit werden. Daraufhin fällte man die Buche, dabei fand man die eingewachsene Marienfigur wieder. Sie hatte die Kerbe des Schwertes in der Rückseite. Dieser Vorfall brachten den Ungläubigen dazu, Christ zu werden und sich fortan in der Nähe von Mariabuchen aufzuhalten, womit der Grundstein des Wallfahrtsortes gelegt war. (Quelle: Wikipedia)
