Im Bauernkrieg 1525 wurde das Kloster von aufständischen Bauern geplündert und teilweise zerstört. Von 1803 bis 1986 war das Kloster im Besitz des Fürstenhauses Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg. 1986 erwarb der Main-Tauber-Kreis die Klosteranlage.
Noch heute sind Führungen im Kloster und der Klosterkirche möglich, auch finden Veranstaltungen besonderer Art statt, wie Konzerte für klassische Musik, Ausstellungen und Tagungen.
